Rebecca Howard

I have been painting now as a landscape artist for 15 years. In the early days I worked from a studio in Bristol, eventually dropping my part-time job and going full time in 2009. Since then I have been steadily growing my portfolio , exhibiting in The Henley Royal Regatta, Stewards Enclosure several years in a row. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of numerous group shows which has seen my work exhibited across the breadth of the country. I have also been represented by some wonderful galleries over the years, here’s to name a few:

Tiny Gallery, Henley

Robin’s Nest , Wargrave,

Jack’s gallery, Henley

The Art Warehouse, Bristol

Bristol Contemporary, Online

Lovely’s, Margate

Hayden Gallery, Marlow

A Residency in the Ice 2019

In February this year I spent a month living in the tiny village of Skagaströnd in Northern Iceland.  Here I shared a studio with 15 other artists from all over the world, many of whom inspired the work I ended up creating.

As one of only two painters at the residency I felt a sense of liberation, I was able to paint freely drawing inspiration from the hugely diverse landscape before me. This series of paintings highlights the ever-changing weather on such a gloriously ‘unfinished’ landscape. Its stormy skies, cool sunsets and wild mountains became a source of great beauty and tranquility to me during my 4 week stay.

I was lucky enough to witness the beautiful green glow of the northern lights which danced over my head in the small hours of the morning one Saturday night. Its cool light flickering over the artificial light from the harbour.

During my stay I witnessed the ebb and flow of the seasons as snow arrived and then slowly melted, briefly revealing peeks of the potential spring which lay in waiting. This series documents that constant flux which I came to love living in Iceland.

A Cornish Residency - 2020

29th February - 7th March 2020

In March of 2020 I swapped my very inland studio in Twyford for the wilds of the Cornish coastline ! Whilst I was down there I created some exciting new work in the very remote cottage Brisons Veor at the very edge of Cornwall’s Atlantic coastline. One of the paintings I created is pictured above … ‘Fading Storm’ is part of a pair which highlight this rugged and wind-swept part of the country. The original is for sale ( 50 x 50cm , oil on Canvas ) Please email me for further details.
